July 28 – Little Town, It’s Not a Quiet Village🎶
Another laundry day to start today. Found another Wash.Me location on the way back from Europa Park last night that was only 15 minutes away that was next to a grocery store. We headed there to do laundry and grab a quick bite for breakfast.
Back to the hotel, we realized it was close to lunch so headed to Lidl to get some salads and sandwiches…felt like all we did the morning was eat. Once we figure out we could get tickets for the waterpark tomorrow, we got ready to head to Colmar, France. I love changing the settings on Google Maps to avoid highways & toll roads, so this time we ended up driving the wine route through Alsace. It was beautiful country roads but took us 2-3 times the amount if we went straight but we were able to see massive vineyards, amazing architecture and even a fortified church. That is the fun going these ways…you never know what you will see or where google will take you. Most times google is ok but others not so ok…like when you end up in an actual vineyard….oops.
Heading into Colmar, Google again took us on a wrong path but we are getting used to the french road signs now so knew not to go that way. Got redirected and found road parking that we could pay with our phone then keep adding time as the day went on and we realized we were not going to be back in time. Got to a point it added time but cost us no more money…bonus 🙂
Driving into the city looks like any other city in France but once you get to the old city things quickly change. This area looks like something out of Beauty and the Beast (think of the Belle singing the opening song of the movie as she walks through the town). Colourful buildings, canals and cobblestones – the area has it all. Every where you look there something else impressive to see.
There is a place that is called Little Venice, complete with a canal system and gondolas (but these guys had motors on the boats) to take you through them. Booking a ticket, we walked around to discover the area even more. At our booked time, we were on the boat for 30 minutes taking in even more sights and sounds.
After the smelly boat tour, we set off for dinner. Trying to pick a restaurant was a bit tough but we settled on an Irish Pub (because why not) and sat outside on the sidewalk to enjoy dinner and a drink. Following that we decided to see if a store I was eyeing was still open (it wasn’t) but we started to do the official walking tour of the area. Starting at #1 we made it to 19 of 40 in order but then ended up skipping somehow to 22 then we were back at the car (and these other 3 were done even though I wanted to finish them). We hopped in the car to go look for the Statute of Liberty.
The replica was located in a roundabout (there are thousands of them in Europe so this is not surprising) but we were able to park at a store to get out to get a picture. Then we were heading back the highway to get a good night sleep before heading to the water park tomorrow. On the way back, the full moon appeared on the horizon. It was so big and beautifully orange. It was a perfect thing to see at the end of the day ❤️
