July 25 – Chasing Waterfalls

After another slow start…this is starting to become a pattern though it was really to be expected after getting in late from the Basel Tattoo the night before…we hit the road to head towards the Rhine Falls in Switzerland. It is amazing going from France to Switzerland because even though there are open borders in Europe, you still have to slow down here as Switzerland is not part of the European Union but no need to stop unless asked so it was slow (10 km/h) sailing for us.

Once we found a parking spot it was off to find a WC (these were hard to find today because we had to go 🙂 ) then we headed towards the falls. The Rhine Falls are deemed to be the largest and most powerful in Europe. The amount of people there on a sunny Saturday was ridiculous! A lot of people in Europe are definitely not the most considerate. They don’t think twice about taking up the entire walkways or not sharing. We are starting to behave like them if not we would not get anywhere 🙂

Visiting these falls were fun but too many people for us. So after viewing them from a few places and not being able to hop on a boat tour (too late in the day), we grabbed some food for dinner and headed back to Triberg to visit falls that should be free after 7:00pm when the cashier goes home.

The free viewing didn’t happen for us. So after we paid, we headed up the trail for a picnic and to view another spot that Patrick remembers from his past here. The falls had a lot less people and were just as beautiful.

As it was later in the evening, we headed back to the hotel to get ready to check out tomorrow and make our way to Selestat, France.
