July 15 – Singing in the Alps, Rope Course, Ski Lifts and Gondolas
After a spectacular lightning storm late last night, we woke up a sky that was clouded over with the occasional sun breaking through and even some rain drops today.
At the end of the school year, Sable was cast in the Dal Opera production and during the summer they review this with his voice teacher but last week he had a cold so today we recorded 2 weeks of opera on the side of hill in Austria. The hills this morning were definitely alive with the sound of music.
Following this today we split up to do two different activities, Patrick & Sable went to do a ropes course close to the hotel and Tori (Bryan) and I headed down the hill to take a free chair lift up to the top of a local mountain. When you stay in some areas of Europe, the accommodations provide you with a free Guest Pass that includes all local buses, some lifts & cable cars, etc. So today the climbers got 10% off and Tori and I got to ride up and down the chair lift for free. The ride up this lift took about 20-25 minutes to get to the top. We were met with a chilly wind, cows & goats. Heading to a local restaurant we had a local dish called a rosti and Tori had a mushroom veggie burger the size of their hand. After getting past language barrier, we were all paid up and away we went to find a the swing on top. What a feeling swinging out towards the edge of the mountain. Feels like you are flying.
Going back to the lift to get a ride down, we got a message from Patrick that they were done and would meet us at the end. Worked out great…we didn’t have to walk back up 2 km straight up hill 🙂
Heading out to find a waterfall and explore Mallau, we realized what crazy roads are here…and we have been on crazy ones already! Big truck meeting you on corners that can only fit one car at the best of times. Got to the waterfall and the thunder sounded, not doing that so back down we went.
Today is an early night as we will be heading to Vaduz, Liechtenstein tomorrow for Patrick and Sable to do a mountain hike while we explore the town.
